From the experimental archives of 2012... Using just a piano, I made the sound/music fresh out of my Master's in Music Composition program from UNCG. My associate Alice Dull sent me this silent video & wanted to see what I could do with it. I wanted to make something, but no longer had access to UNCG's amazing studio & softwares, and I was back to my basic piano + laptop/ProTools with a couple of microphones.
Using the piano I had, I recorded reverberating piano chords and reversed them to create the foundational washy backgrounds that crescendo (pianos don't naturally do that), maximized L/R directional shaping 🎧 (instead of the nice surround sound that I was spoiled with @ UNCG's studio lol but it still travels around), brought out some ringing of the overtones, and used the light + images + my own interpretations as inspiration for the rest of the sound + music.
